We all want to be more productive, more organized and better able to juggle the various aspects of our lives. So when lifehacks come along that promise to help us do just that—we jump at the chance. But not all lifehacks are created equal. In fact, there are some that can actually make life harder than it needs to be. So before you start trying out different tips and tricks, here are four things we all hate about lifehacks, and why they might not be as helpful as they seem.
They don’t work
We’ve all seen those posts on social media: “10 lifehacks to make your life easier!” They usually show some creative way to use common household items to make life a little bit easier. But more often than not, these lifehacks just don’t work.
Maybe they worked for the person who originally posted them, but when you try to replicate the results, you just end up with a mess. Or maybe the lifehack requires some sort of special equipment that you just don’t have lying around the house. Whatever the reason, these lifehacks just don’t seem to work for anyone but the person who came up with them in the first place.
And that’s frustrating, because we’re all looking for ways to make our lives a little bit easier. So if you’re one of those people who has tried (and failed) to implement a lifehack, you’re not alone. Maybe one day we’ll find some lifehacks that actually work, but until then, we’ll just have to keep trying (and failing).
They’re too complicated
One of the biggest complaints about lifehacks is that they’re just too complicated. There’s too much to remember and too many steps to follow. It can all be very overwhelming, especially when you’re already trying to juggle a million things in your life.
Some lifehacks can seem like more trouble than they’re worth. Why bother learning a complicated process when you can just do things the old-fashioned way? Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
If you find yourself feeling frustrated with lifehacks, don’t give up on them entirely. Just take a break and come back when you’re ready. Start with small, simple hacks and work your way up to the more complicated ones. Or skip the hard stuff altogether and stick to the basics. Either way, there’s no shame in finding what works best for you.
They take too much time
We all love finding new ways to make our lives easier, but sometimes lifehacks can be more trouble than they’re worth. One of the most hated lifehack truth is they take too much time.
Sure, a lifehack might save you a few minutes here or there, but often they require more time to set up than they actually save in the long run. If you’re constantly fiddling with your lifehacks and trying to get them to work just right, you’re not really saving any time at all.
They never solve the problem
When you see a lifehack, it’s usually because someone is trying to make your life easier. But sometimes, these lifehacks can be more trouble than they’re worth. Here are some of the things we hate about lifehacks:
They never solve the problem: Lifehacks are often touted as being able to solve all sorts of problems, but in reality, they rarely do. This is because most lifehacks are simply band-aid solutions that don’t get to the root of the problem.
They’re often more work than they’re worth: In many cases, a lifehack will require you to put in more effort than if you just solved the problem the traditional way. This is especially true if the lifehack is complicated or requires special equipment.
They can be dangerous: Some lifehacks can be outright dangerous, especially if they involve electrical appliances or other potentially hazardous materials. If you’re not careful, you could end up seriously injuring yourself or damaging your property.
They’re usually not sustainable: Most lifehacks are only temporary solutions that won’t work in the long term. If you rely on them too much, you’ll find yourself back at square one eventually.
